OK, so it’s more of a quick ‘Smoke’ than a Bite…but there is food involved! We were invited to Park City Cigar recently to meet with owner John Stancil. Stancil, after retiring from a successful career in the commercial automatic door industry decided to pursue his passion…other than his lovely wife (the two still treat each other like newlyweds). Currently, Park City Cigar is inside Saw Works Brewing. He has had beautiful humidors custom made and, unlike many cigar shops, Stancil makes every goes to his corner of the brewery feel welcomed and will gladly assist new cigar smokers with selections to fit their personal tastes.
And speaking of tastes, this is a food blog after all! Every Saturday, Park City Cigar offers a Saturday Tasting. Whether it’s he and his wife’s own creations or a special dish from Willy’s Butcher Shop, at 2:30 doors open and everyone is welcome to come in, have a free snack, talk cigars, enjoy Saw Works Beer, and even take to the outside space and enjoy a cigar! The day we were there, Willy’s had provided a delicious Chicken Salad and Stancil had made delicious homemade crackers to accompany it.
Stancil picked out four of his favorite cigars to give to us to try. He not only enjoys smoking and selling cigars, he knows all the details behind the sometimes, hundreds year old companies and has met many of the proprietors of the companies. He takes this cigar hobby seriously! Future plans for growth are afoot as well. A separate building will soon house his shop and a larger patio is being installed to allow for more outdoor space to enjoy beer and cigars. If you are a regular cigar smoker, or have always been curious about which cigar you might like, stop in an talk to John. He was a delightful owner and is a true aficionado of the cigar culture!
