Saturday evening we were very fortunate to attend a preview night and fundraiser for the Legacy Parks Foundation at the soon to open Balter Beerworks. It was a chance for the Knoxville community to see what owner, Blaine Wedekind, and crew have in store for us when they open to the public Monday, February 8. We sampled house brews and tasted small bite interpretations of menu items. It was a night of fun for all that attended and the offerings did not disappoint!

Wedekind explained to Mr. Knoxfoodie and myself that the word “balter” means to dance without skill, but with enjoyment. This inspired the name of the brewery as well as their tagline that is seen throughout the space “with enjoyment.”

Currently, there are eight house brews on tap and one cask conditioned beer. The favorite beers of the night were the 8-6-Rye (a brown ale), The Bear Blend (a coffee oatmeal porter full of that delicious coffee kick), and the Firebelly (a citrusy floral IPA). They also boast a full bar with cocktails and a selection of interesting whiskeys. The food offerings were reminiscent of pub fare but with an elevated twist. We snacked on house made pimento cheese on pita with pickled vegetables, fried chicken sliders, carne asada tacos, fried green tomatoes, and crostini with brussels sprouts and a fried quail egg. Everything we had just left us wanting more!

It appeared as though everyone in attendance had a lovely time. Mr. Knoxfoodie and I cannot wait to go back and check out Balter Beerworks during their regular business hours.

Here are a few photos to whet your appetite of this soon to be Knoxville hot spot.
