Matthew Cummings of Pretentious Beer Glass Company in Knoxville, TN
For our regular KnoxFoodie Date night, our buddy Zack at Knox Brew Tours took us to Pretentious Beer Glass Company in The Old City this week. Owner Matthew Cummings saw a need in the booming beer industry for well-designed glasses. These aren’t the glasses you will find at the average watering hole. These are fine pieces of glass art that you will want to use, and show off to friends while enjoying your favorite craft brew.
Each glass is hand-crafted and you can watch the artists at work and chat with them 6 days a week!
Chef Tim Love tells us he is commissioning the glasses for his upcoming Lonesome Dove restaurant just a few feet from the doors of Pretentious Glass. Each glass is meticulously hand made and you can even have one custom-made with your fingerprints on it! Matthew is also expanding his operation to include brewing beer. Some of you have probably had samples of his brews and others will have the opportunity in the coming months. Here’s some photos we took on our recent visit. Pretentious is open Monday-Thursday 8am-4pm, Friday 8am-4pm and 6pm-9pm, and Saturdays 1pm-7pm. Stop in and check out these great glasses, spend a few minutes at the ‘bar’ watching the artists at work, and pick up one or two for home along with other glass art that is offered.
